The Impact of Insulating Coatings on ICEs Performance

Thermal insulation is the philosopher’s stone of engine design: a substantial reduction in heat rejection would bring along a noticeable efficiency improvement in ICEs.
In this context, PWT partnered with Instituto CMT–Motores Térmicos (UPV) to develop a methodology for the assessment of thin coating layers, enhancing 3D-CFD simulation of Thermo-Swing Wall INsulation (TSWIN) coatings. This methodology proved to be computationally efficient while ensuring good reliability.
