1D-3D-CFD co-simulation to assess H2 combustion potential
H2 is seen by many as a revolutionary fuel that can give a CO2-less, fast, and complete combustion process in IC engines.
PWT, in collaboration with PUNCH Torino and e3 – Engines Energy Environment has developed a simulation methodology that, taking advantage of a combined 1D- 3D-CFD approach, improves on the traditional CAE tools used for engine development.
Moreover, various combustion technologies (PFI, DI, TJI) were assessed for H2 combustion retrofit on a current series-production Diesel engine.
Extremely promising results in terms of both brake thermal efficiency and low NOx emissions were obtained.
